| OL’s at Kenilworth Festival 25th April 2010 OL’s U10’s fielded a squad of 10 for Kenilworth’s festival, meeting teams from Rugby, Atherstone and Coventry in some impressive encounters. OL’s tied at the top of the table on points with Kenilworth, who took overall honours by conceding one less try than us. | |||||||

Whilst the parents concentrated on staying warm on a
bitterly cold day at Lutterworth RFC, the OLs representatives applied
themselves to the task in hand incredibly well. Three wins and a draw saw the
U10s win this Prima Cup qualifying festival and earn themselves a quarter final
at Welford Rd, the home of Leicester Tigers. They are due to play just before
Tigers’ Heineken cup match against Clermont-Auvergne. The Tigers match is being
televised and shown throughout the world so there is the exciting possibility
of Jonno‘s red shorts finally, and rightfully, being glimpsed on an
international stage. | U10s Rugby St Andrews Festival The U10s squad was split this week (18/10/09) with teams of equal strength entered into the Broadstreet and Rugby St.Andrews Festival. Jono and Glyn led their squad at Rugby coming away a credible joint third out of a group of five. The first match saw a 5-0 defeat to a well drilled Towcester side with poor rucking at the breakdown the main difference. OLs were 3-0 up at half time against Daventry courtesy of tries from Alex Knight, Tom Fawcett and George Smith, but we took the pedal off the gas in the second half and Daventry did well to come away with a 3-3 draw. We went down a disappointing 6-0 to a physical Old Northamptonians team but were able to lift our heads in the final match to beat the hosts Rugby St.Andrews 6-0 with tries from Oliver Wallis, Tom Fawcett (2), Benedict Lloyd, and Kai Bailey (2). The boys should be proud of their performance this week with a real mix of talent on the pitch. | ||||||
| U10s Broad St Festival The Broad Street Festival (18/10/09) saw half the U10s coming a whisker away from capturing another tournament win but finally ended up 3rd in an extremely close contest. | I'm delighted to report that we came back (eventually with a 4.00 finish !) with the trophy from the Droitwich Festival. The boys put up a wonderful performance and came away as the only team across the age groups to remain unbeaten. We played some strong teams beating Stourbridge, Malvern, Bromsgrove, and Droitwich in our group and Bredon in the final, only letting in 2 tries in the five matches. What was most pleasing was the manner of the win - it was a real team effort led from the front with the forwards dominating the scrums and mauls - the line out needs some work as does the rucking. The backs played their part with unquestionably the best defence in the tournament and strong running from everyone - the lines of running and quality of passing at times defied their age. | ||||||
