A story of 2 halves. In the first, against the wind and under pressure, OL's proved the better executors of the chances that came their way. In the second, lets just say that Old Coventrians were the benefactors of some very 'close' calls. However, nothing can take away the fact that OL's deserved this win.
Old Coventrians started strongly, playing an intelligent kicking game and scoring a quick try. However, unlike other XV's, this OL's team did not start infighting, nor did they drop their heads. Instead, they worked their way up the pitch and proved themselves the better technical maulers, despite their weightier and more experienced opponents. Oli Wright crossed for his first 2nd XV try, finishing off an awesome catch and drive from a lineout that did no wrong all day.

They say that great teams win ugly. And by no stretch of the word that was an ugly win. In a game where the biggest talking point was the sudden changes of weather, neither team set the pitch alight.
OL's were more often than not victims of their own best endeavours; instead of playing the simple rugby that has seen this team shine on so many occasions this season, we tried too hard. For some reason things just didn't work. We were untidy around the rucks and over adventurous in our passing. In the teams defense it is always difficult to gain momentum with passive srums, especially as the OL's pack had the measure of their opponents from the off.

OL’s fielded a powerful side against the Midlands 4 League Leaders second string. This choice was justified as Spartans kicked two penalties in windy conditions and took an early 6 – 0 lead. Undeterred by this, Old Leamingtonians came back playing direct intelligent rugby. Jamie Brown and Rob Marr continually found space around the sides, and the hard running of Si Hemming ensured the Spartan centres had a busy afternoon.

OLs Under 9s maintained their recent good form, winning all three matches at a muddy Old Coventrians on Sunday. On a bright, sunny day - the first day of Summer - OLs mixed the starting line up as usual.
In game 1, OLs took some time to get to grips with OCs rucking and mauling, conceding a try early on. Kyriakos Grammatopoulos dotted down frm a maul to level at half time. OLS gained the upper hand in the second half; Alex Smith picked up a loose ball to score and George Hawkes scored a third as OLs won by 15 -5.
OLs made numerous changes to their line up and dominated match two from the first whistle with excellent tackling and rucking. Three tries were scored in each half (scorers - Jack Firth, Sennen Scobie (2), James McSharry and Kieran Brophy (2)) as OLs eased to a 30 - 0 victory.
The boys ignored the opportunity of an early lunch to play a third game.

OLs U9s pitched up at Teignmouth over the Easter weekend to provide the curtain-raiser to the home team's annual fixture against Old Merchant Taylors RFC.

The excellent programme announced that Teignmouth U9s had won 14 fixtures out of 16 this season, and it was soon evident from Teign's warm-up that OLs would be in for a hard time. However, OLs have performed strongly all season, particularly since Christmas, and their own pre-match training in front of the packed stand, delighted the large travelling support. OLs started strongly showing excellent rucking and mauling skills coupled with a stout defence. Cory Bailey opened the scoring with his first try of the season, and although Teign's replied, Will Fawcett drove over the line to ensure OLs led at half-time. The pattern continued in the second-half as late arrival Alex Smith scored, only for Teign's to reply with a wonder try. OLs were undaunted as scrum-half Kieran Brophy made a scintillating break from a scrum and stretched out to score in the corner as the Tourists won by 20 - 10.
The Teign's coach was not pleased, and his team was fired up for the rematch...

Another feather in the cap of OLs junior teams! Under 16 prop Gregg Swinburn was picked to play in the Welsh Exiles team.
The
Welsh Rugby Union runs a team known as the Welsh Exiles where those of Welsh
Ancestry can be picked to play on behalf of the Exiles team, and where talent
scouts try and identify potential in younger players, with a view to bringing
them back into mainstream rugby in Wales, potentially even representing Wales
at international level. Previous Exiles have included Tom Shanklin, and Colin
Charvis and Huw Bennett, well known names in International Rugby.
Gregg Swinburn (known
in the team as "Sherli" due to his long red hair) registered his
ancestry with the WRU and got a surprise invite to come and play for them in
late February. He was unequivocally shocked by the invite and spent the two
weeks in the run up doing a bit more physical training! He met up with about 9
new team members to the Exiles core, and ended playing the second half as
loosehead, his normal position.
