2nd XV underway with a victory
The 2nd XV made the away trip to Spartans to play in their first Warwickshire 2nd XV Merit Table fixture of the season.
Taking
a strong side, OLs were confident of turning over what initially
appeared to be a large and well drilled side from Spartans and having
won the toss, decided to play against the slope in the first half.
Straight from the off it was clear it would be an aggressive game up
front with fierce rucking from both sides, not entirely legal all of
the time and the referee had his work cut out keeping tempers down. It
was from one of these penalties that Spartans got the opening points on
the board. Indiscipline by OLs in their own 22 led to the Spartans
kicker having an easy 3 points from in front of the posts.

OLs extras enjoy the sunshine in the South Warwickshire Countryside!
On a very warm day in Harbury an OLs 2nd/3rd team played in the 2nd Annual Alan Padbury Memorial Tournament.
Provisionally, this had been touted as an opportunity for the remaining players, not selected to play Leamington to have a run out and press claims for positions this season. However, with it being the Bank Holiday and the sunshine eventually out it soon became apparent that to get 15 players would be an achievement and it was with that number that we arrived at Harbury to get the 07/08 season underway.
With several players playing out of position the first game was against a strong looking Harbury side. Having already played their first 20 minute game, it was clear that OLs would have to start with the intensity often missing from the beginning of games last season.

The rain never stopped but neither did the Old Leams team! The Relay for Life in aid of Cancer Research UK raised around £25,000 this weekend!
Teams from all over Warwickshire came to the club to walk around the training pitch for 24 hours. They pitches their tents, dressed up in funny outfits and raised lots of money.
The team from Old Leamingtonians consisted of:
Danni Benge, Pip Colenutt, Marieke Vink, Karen Coleman, Ada Ajoku, Gemma Lewis, Mary Sugrue, Laura Knox, Fiona Rose-Jebson, Jane Daniel, Mike Vallence (not in the picture: Julie, Alex & Becky Vallence). Of of course, Top Dog Branston!
Everyone was REALLY tired by the time Sunday morning came around but it was a great experience and something we will definately look forward to for next year!

Do you want to contribute to the Old Leams website? Perhaps just write a match report every week. Or add some pictures. Now you can!
The Webmistress of olrfc.co.uk is looking for people to take over the running of the site. You will get full training on how it all works but really, if you can use Word, then you can add things to the site.
We are not looking for one person to do it all. There are a few roles that can be shared which will make things easier for everyone!

The Ladies' section is proud to announce that Head Coach Gemma Lewis has passed the exam for the RFU Level 2 coaching qualification! Assistant Coach, Caz Lambert, passed the exam earlier this year but Gemma's exam date was changed because she was busy claiming the title with the West Midlands squad!
Well done to Caz & Gemma. We look forward to a great season!
After winning the title in Midlands 2 last season, Old Leamingtonians Ladies are building on their past success as well as making new inroads into the future. A new coaching team of Gemma Lewis (who has already won 3 titles coaching the West Midlands squad) and Caz Lambert means the team now have the luxury of two RFU Level 2 qualified coaches.
Captain Danni Benge remarked: “Many experienced players welcome the chance to work with such a quality coaching staff; it shows Old Leamingtonians are serious about the future. Caz used to play for us before she became Assistant Coach and Gemma has been the Assistant Coach last season. This kind of continuity really is our strength.”
