Old Leamingtonians 2nd XV continued their excellent start to the season with a well worked 50-3 win over Banbury 3rds at the Crofts.
Banbury, after turning up with 13 men were offered the services of an OLs prop “relaxing in the bar” and OLs sportingly agreed to drop to 14 men to make it an even sided affair, Neil Hall making the sacrifice.
Attacking with the wind in the first half, it was Banbury who made the most of the early exchanges. OLs seemingly over confident from their previous wins and not showing the usual intensity seen so far this season spent most of the first 15 minutes defending in their own half.

LETHARGIC Leamingtonians crashed to earth with a
hefty bump against a fired-up Ledbury side fully capable of cashing in on
hapless opponents. Both teams went into this Midlands Four West
(South) fixture boasting 100 per cent records, but it was Ledbury who were able
to extend their winning sequence to four matches as Leamingtonians subsided in
sorry fashion.
The visitors were forced into a flurry of late
changes but this cannot be put forward as justified excuse for the way the team performed on
an afternoon when Ledbury were given an armchair ride. They went in for eight
tries with Leamingtonians restricted to a penalty and the conversion of a
penalty try awarded for deliberate obstruction slap bang in front of the
posts.

Old Leamingtonians field a mixed side of vets and young players
although for the majority of the latter this was their first game since junior
rugby. Both sides played the game in a good sprit, with Trinity Guild loaning
a hooker to allow contested scrums.
OLs had the better of the first half
dominating the scrums and threatening out wide. However, Trinity Guild scored
first from a knock-on interception against the run of play. OLs responded positively
scoring two tries before half time. Paul Salvin (lock) scoring in his first
ever game of rugby from a well supported move out wide and Simon Quinlin with
pick and go from a 5m ruck. A try saving tackle on winger Jack Jones, playing
his first game since fourteen, following a nicely balanced chip kick over the
top, ended a good first half performance by Leamingtonians.
Score at half time Old Leamingtonians 12 Trinity Guild 7

On Saturday OLs 2nd XV made the short trip to play local rivals
Leamington looking to continue their impressive start to the season. Unfortunately, OLs were unable to produce a front row for the game so the game was uncontested scrums from the start.
With several players looking a little jaded from the Wednesday night floodlit 40s game, it appeared that
Leamington may have had the upper hand. However, it was OLs who yet
again made an excellent start, with the intensity expected of a local
derby evident from the first hit. Some of this aggressive defensive
work, particularly from Dan Biddle who excelled in a slightly
unfamiliar flanker role, meant what little ball
Leamington had was quickly snaffled and turned over on a number of
occasions. This combined with several strong runs from Raj Bahey put
Leamington on the back foot for most of the opening 40 minutes.

BUOYANT Leamingtonians have unearthed a welcome injection of resilience as they are finding coming to terms with life in the sleepier reaches of Midlands Four West (South).
Last season's brittle backbone would have seen them cave in after conceding 12 early points -- this time round the deficit only served as a wake up call for a team now boasting maximum points from three league fixtures. Early days, but confidence at The Crofts is beginning to soar as forwards and backs begin to shape as a team capable of mounting a promotion challenge.
