Two well taken tries following defensive errors by Old Leams either side of half time spoiled what otherwise was a far improved performance from the young OL’s team. In a game that was dominated for long periods by the OL’s pack and completely dominated by a match official who succeeded in disrupting the play of both sides by his many confusing decisions, mainly in favour of the home team, that brought promising moves to an abrupt end, spoiling what would have been a far better game and a more likely winning result for the visitors. The game had opened with the OL’s forwards completely dominating the Veseyan front five providing good ball for the speedy backs. One such move saw the ball won, spun along the length of the three quarters to see a fine try scored in the corner and converted from wide out by Adam Canning. Two penalties converted by the home team saw the score at 6 – 7 for most of the first half but with half time approaching an error behind the OL’s goal line saw the ball turned over and a rolling maul saw Veseyan’s Samoan international number 8 forced over for a try. A further penalty right on the stroke of the half time whistle saw Veseyan’s increase their lead to 14 – 7 at the interval. The second half saw OL’s playing with the wind at their backs and repeated incursions into the Veseyans 22 metre area resulted in the home side committing fouls from which Canning added two more penalty conversions. With the score at 14 – 13 the advantage passed to OL’s but despite constant pressure and good forward play OL’s failed to add to their tally. The second of the two bad defensive errors late in the game provided Veseyan’s with a scoring opportunity that they took, moving the score to 19 – 13 and despite constant pressure in the last 10 minutes OL’s were unable to create a clear cut chance to reply. OL’s performance was far improved from those of previous weeks and had it not been for the match official a far different result might well have been achieved.
OL Colts travelled to Nuneaton with a minimum squad of 15, two of which were carrying injuries and with only one recognised Prop. A selection of Props were given to OL's throughout the game by the 23 man squad of Nuneaton. The game began with Nuneaton quickly scoring 3 tries by securing the ball through their forwards and full use of the backs to run in the tries. At this point in the game Nuneaton sensed they were on for a huge score, however OL's started to play with more determination by not allowing their heads to drop. At half time the score was 27 - 0. Throughout the second half OL's continued to hold Nuneaton with excellent defensive work, particularly by Eddie Prudoe who was the man of the match and the Smith brothers, Tom and Rob. OL's also made a number of impressive attacking moves with the backs combining well. OL's finished the game strongly with all players giving maximum effort, unfortunately resulting in further injuries with Tom Hyam having to retire from play with a broken front tooth. The referee, had an excellent game, maintaining a fast flowing game. He commented on how well the OL's kept going and were unfortunate not to have scored a try
