On Sunday 23rd November 2008 OL President Mike Hemming presented two cheques with a combined value of £1300 to good causes. The money was the proceeds of the charity raffle and a further bucket collection made on 1st November the day of the last Patron’s lunch.

£500 went to the Warwick Division of St John’s Ambulance and was gratefully received by husband and wife team Mike and Barbara Cornes who plan to use the money to equip a new vehicle. |
A cheque for £800 was donated to Tracey and Simon, the parents of disabled 6 year old Ashley Downie to help them to purchase a specially adapted tricycle which will allow her more freedom and mobility. Ashley was born with a chromosome deficiency which causes problems with mobility. The “Terrier” tricycle from a company called Thereplay has trunk and pelvic supports and leg calipers.
Tracey is a former player with OL Ladies Rugby team until she broke her leg last Year. The OL Ladies supplemented the Patrons’ raffle pot with a bucket collection during and after the match. |
In the past two years OL Patrons have donated a total of over £3000 to good causes including £615 to the Army Benevolent Fund, £390 to Cancer Research UK and £700 to the Warwickshire Air Ambulance (in addition to a further £500 to the Air Ambulance via OL member, Richard Wormell’s Warwickshire Referees President’s Fund). |
