Old Leamingtonians Vets were pleased to welcome Warwickians 2nds to the Crofts. The Vets were depleted of players through injury and throughout the club and therefore had to borrow a player from Warwickians to make the game 13 plays 14.

As has become the custom between the Vets and their good friends from Warwickians the game was an end to end affair with plenty of flowing rugby resulting in the sides scoring consecutively. More trys would have been scored but for the fact that both sides were playing sort handed. Warwickians scored the first and second trys in the first half whilst Old Leams Vets scored trys through the indefatigable Steve Cook from openside flanker and a close in try from prop Gary Marks.

The second half continued in much the same fashion, sadly the Vets lost the services of Steve Cook to a cut head, however they scored a further 2 trys through Nick Sandy, who showed remarkable pace for a prop running in from 30 meters out making light of the tackling. Second row Simon Quinlan scored a try following good forward work.

The game was notable as hooker Tom O’Conner was joined for the first time on a rugby field by his son Tom O’Conner Jnr. Tom snr’ scoring a penalty kick and a conversion and Tom jnr’ scored a conversion. A poll of both sides resulted in Tom O’Conner junior receiving the man of the match for his all round display of rugby skills as the Vets guest scrum half.

Again the Vets are indebted to Andy Hall for kindly refereeing the game in lieu of any society ref.

Sunday November 23rd at the club from 10.00am

The gum shield is the most important piece of equipment a rugby player should own.

gumshield.pngThe gum shield not only protects your teeth and gums, it can reduce damage around the jaw and your chances of getting concussed.

As every mouth is different, so every gum shield should be moulded to fit perfectly around the top half of a player's mouth.

The best way of doing this is to see your local club dentist, who will make sure the shield is right for your mouth.

Roy Dixon, Dentist of this parish, will be available at the club to take impressions for perfectly moulded blue-and-gold gum shields.

£25 cash for complete piece of mind
