A dramatic late recovery failed to prevent another Division Four West (South) defeat fo stuttering Old Leamingtonians. Fired-up and well-drilled, their visitors ran riot to lead 22-0 at the break to look home and dry.  But the second half saw Leamingtonians come alive to score four  tries thanks to some exciting running from the backs.
Berkswell, with only one defeat behind them, deserved their win and will go close to winning promotion given an extension of their opening 40 minutes. They dominated the set pieces, were hungry for the loose ball and accepted their scoring opportunities with alacrity.
Yet despite their fifth defeat in eight league starts the OL's came away boosted that they could be close to fielding a combination capable of securing a winning run, starting with Saturday's visit of Evesham.
In Jamie Brown and Simon Magill they offered real pace and threat, sharing three tries and giving the visiting defence a torrid time. Brown added to his try brace with a conversion and two penalties with Leamingtonians also enjoying a try-scoring debut from lock forward Greg Williams, a recent capture from Old Coventrians. There was also pleasing signs that Luke Statton and Andy Mould could settle into a capable half-back partnership.
A stop-start game, free of any evil intent, was marred by some over fussy refereering which produced a rash of cards, eight yellow and one red for a Berkswell player who even attracted support from rival players and spectators as he was sent from the field for a second technical infringement.
