A MUCH brighter showing brought Leamingtonians a deserved victory against a determined Evesham team at The Crofts.
The return of Dan Peart after a long period of injury bolstered the home back line and with forwards and three-quarters in tune there was plenty of renewed promise to suggest that the season could yet move to the plus side. Certainly the perky Peart enjoyed his comeback, while there was a fine contribution from teenage scrum-half Mark Foley.
An impressive opening by the OL pack realised an early try for new lock Greg Williams who surged through a number of would be tacklers to crash over from a lineout for his second score in as many outings. Dave Canning converted. The loss of powerhouse prop Paul Brown through a rib injury then disrupted the momentum and Evesham took advantage to level with a converted try following a bout of strong pressure.
Leamingtonians continued to play expansive rugby and by the interval they had stretched into a 17-7 advantage with a well-struck penalty from Foley who then coverted a try eagerly accepted by flanker Dan Careless.
The second half followed a similar pattern to the first but with a strong wind behind them the OL's failed to fully capitalise onthe elements by trying to run the ball at every opportunity. Their adventure did produce a hallmark try from eye-catching winger Simon Magill who shrugged off a number of markers to burst over in the corner.
Evesham, to their credit, kept plugging away and they were rewarded when the outside centre added to his earlier touchdown, this time running in from just outside his own 22  -- the conversion making it 22-14. But it was the home side who enjoyed the last word, Careless completing his own try brace in the dying seconds of a mostly entertaining match.
It was a welcome win for Leamingtonians, who travel to neighbours Shipston on Saturday, and the frustration of seeing their season dented by a number of long-term injuries could be at an end.

Sunday November 23rd at the club from 10.00am

The gum shield is the most important piece of equipment a rugby player should own.

gumshield.pngThe gum shield not only protects your teeth and gums, it can reduce damage around the jaw and your chances of getting concussed.

As every mouth is different, so every gum shield should be moulded to fit perfectly around the top half of a player's mouth.

The best way of doing this is to see your local club dentist, who will make sure the shield is right for your mouth.

Roy Dixon, Dentist of this parish, will be available at the club to take impressions for perfectly moulded blue-and-gold gum shields.

£25 cash for complete piece of mind
