Old Leamingtonians Vets welcomed Nuneaton Old Edwardians 3rd team to their Crofts grounds on a sunny yet windy afternoon.

The Vets were playing with a team of stalwart veteran players and some recent additions to the world of Vets rugby. Nuneaton Old Eds started the game in a storming fashion applying considerable pressure to the Old Leams line in the first 20 minutes, with one particularly well worked rolling maul driving the Vets back 25 meters to their own line only for the referee to give held up over the line. The Vets continued to defend well and eventually broke out with the Vets scrum beginning to take control of the set pieces. With an injury to one of their props Nuneaton requested passive scrums from the referee despite Old Leams prop Yorkie volunteering to play for the Nuneaton side. Sadly they declined his offer apparently preferring the ungentlemanly option of playing 50 minutes of rugby with unopposed scrums. The first half finished with no score.

In the second half the Old Leams Vets reorganised their pack in view of the Nuneaton Old Edwardians going unopposed making it lighter yet faster. This clearly that the Vets game management was superior as wing Roger Staples ran in from 40 meters for a well earnt try converted by full back Chris Joyner. Further good work by the Vets forwards and slick handling by the backs saw winger Roger Staples sprint over for a second well deserved try. The Vets finished the game on a high with full back Chris Joyner crossing for a try converted by himself.
