ENTERTAINMENT was the name of this game with spectators at The Crofts treated to some all-action friendly fare.
Away from the pressures of league rugby, both clubs used the occasion to rest players with nagging injuries problems whilst also welcoming back old friends.
Leamingtonians enjoyed a seasonal return of Matt Brock (Canterbury RFC), Steve Campton (Broadstreet) and James Barker to form a powerful back row, and also offered a glimpse of the future in the athletic shape of a threequarter line boasting an average age of below 21.
Southam also played their part in a fixture offering a distinct hint of Baa-Baa's philosophy, although the visitors lacked the cutting edge of their happy-g-lucky hosts who went 20 points up at the interval via tries from Dave Canning, Dan Biddle, Campton and Simon Magill.
The second half followed a similar pattern with Leamingtonians adding to their try tally through Canning and Brock with Adam Canning tagging on both conversions. Southam, game to the last, replied with a penalty and a fine opportunist try that was converted to bring an enjoyable 80 minutes to its conclusion.
