LETHARGIC Leamingtonians leaked a rash of points to gift Spartans a comfortable win in front of a large crowd at The Crofts. Spartans have improved of late to move up the Midlands Four West (South) table, but they must have been surprised by the insipid nature of the home challenge which rarely rose above a pretty modest level.

Winger Simon Magill's converted try did edge Leamingtonians in front early in the second half and full-back Robert Riddler went over to allow Adam Canning's conversion to cut a later deficit to a narrow two points on the hour mark. But the last 20 minutes belonged almost entirely to the visitors and they stretched towards a hardly flattering scoreline, their last seven points being registered in the closing seconds.

Canning added two penalties to his conversion successes but was unable to plot a consistent route through a well-drilled defensive line. A lack of consistisnt quality ball was another factor behind what has to be viewed as a disappointing outing from a youthful team that has been shaping up nicely since the turn of the year.

The match, sponsored by Paul Monthomery, was the penultimate home league fixture -- trips to Droitwich, Evesham and Cleobury Mortimer must be played before Shipston visit The Crofts on April 14. It attracted another successive gathering of the club's Patrons for a lunch that raised a magnificent £775 for the Coventry and Northampton Air Ambulance. That was to be the highlight of the afternoon.

Next match: Droitwich away, Saturday 2.30.

The gum shield is the most important piece of equipment a rugby player should own.

gumshield.pngThe gum shield not only protects your teeth and gums, it can reduce damage around the jaw and your chances of getting concussed.

As every mouth is different, so every gum shield should be moulded to fit perfectly around the top half of a player's mouth.

The best way of doing this is to see your local club dentist, who will make sure the shield is right for your mouth.

Roy Dixon, Dentist of this parish, will be available at the club to take impressions for perfectly moulded blue-and-gold gum shields.

£25 cash for complete piece of mind
