Old Leamingtonians (OL) Rugby Football club held their annual festival for the Mini section on Sunday and would like to thank Kenilworth, Leamington, Old Coventrian and Rugby Lions rugby clubs for fielding teams in age groups under 7 to under 12. Special thanks are for Old Saltleians and Stoke Old Boys rugby clubs for attending at very short notice.

Over 450 players took part in the tournament producing very good displays of rugby. The results were assessed by awarding 3 points for a win, 2 points for a draw and 1 point for a loss. The winning clubs in each age group are under 7 – Old Coventrians, Under 8 – OL, under 9 – OL, under 10 – OL, under 11 – Rugby Lions, under 12 – Rugby Lions. The under 8 tournament was a very close competition, there was only 6 points between the top and bottom. The under 9 tournament produced maximum points for the winners. For the under 12 tournament, the top two teams were tied on points, the number of wins, draws and losses were the same. In the end, the under 12 winners were determined on net scores in line with the rules of the competition.

The successful day was achieved by the army of volunteers and parents who were busy beforehand and throughout the day. The car park attendants were playing tricks instead of parking cars – they will not have walkie talkies next year. Hysterical laughter spilled out of the kitchen. The guy with the microphone for the tannoy had to be restrained. A silent thanks from the players to all the helpers.

Sunday November 23rd at the club from 10.00am

The gum shield is the most important piece of equipment a rugby player should own.

gumshield.pngThe gum shield not only protects your teeth and gums, it can reduce damage around the jaw and your chances of getting concussed.

As every mouth is different, so every gum shield should be moulded to fit perfectly around the top half of a player's mouth.

The best way of doing this is to see your local club dentist, who will make sure the shield is right for your mouth.

Roy Dixon, Dentist of this parish, will be available at the club to take impressions for perfectly moulded blue-and-gold gum shields.

£25 cash for complete piece of mind
