Ladies' coach Gemma LewisThe Ladies' section is proud to announce that Head Coach Gemma Lewis has passed the exam for the RFU Level 2 coaching qualification! Assistant Coach, Caz Lambert, passed the exam earlier this year but Gemma's exam date was changed because she was busy claiming the title with the West Midlands squad!

Well done to Caz & Gemma. We look forward to a great season!

After winning the title in Midlands 2 last season, Old Leamingtonians Ladies are building on their past success as well as making new inroads into the future. A new coaching team of Gemma Lewis (who has already won 3 titles coaching the West Midlands squad) and Caz Lambert means the team now have the luxury of two RFU Level 2 qualified coaches.

Captain Danni Benge remarked: “Many experienced players welcome the chance to work with such a quality coaching staff; it shows Old Leamingtonians are serious about the future. Caz used to play for us before she became Assistant Coach and Gemma has been the Assistant Coach last season. This kind of continuity really is our strength.”

Danni went on to say: “Most women’s teams struggle to get one coach but at Old Leamingtonians, we have the luxury of not one but two highly qualified coaches. It just adds that bit of confidence, knowing that you have the best coaching set up available in the area. New players will also benefit from this because they will receive outstanding coaching from the start.”

The fact that the coaching staff now consists entirely of women is a coincidence but it is a sign of the growth the women’s game in the area has gone through. Gemma Lewis says:” In the past, and for a lot of women’s teams this is still the case, the ladies team was coached by one of the men from the senior squad.  That is great for a while but if you want to move forward and increase the quality of rugby, a club must continually invest in the coaching staff. Our league win last year is proof of this as the last headcoach had experience of Premiership Rugby. I am convinced that Caz and I will be able to continue the progress Old Leamingtonians Ladies has made in the last 3 years. If you want ot play quality rugby and get highly skilled coaching, then Old Leamingtonians is the place to be!”
