15902514_150x150_front.jpgDo you want to contribute to the Old Leams website? Perhaps just write a match report every week. Or add some pictures. Now you can!

The Webmistress of olrfc.co.uk is looking for people to take over the running of the site. You will get full training on how it all works but really, if you can use Word, then you can add things to the site.

We are not looking for one person to do it all. There are a few roles that can be shared which will make things easier for everyone!

There are a few different things people can do for the site.  Although the site does not take up a lot of time, it is a responsibility the club takes seriously. The site is the first thing many people see from Old Leams (The most visited pages are: "How to find us", "Sponsorship opportunities" and "Event Bookings"). So if you are interested in helping out, we don't ask for much but a will to do it right is essential.

Things you could do:

- Adding content.

This is very simple. You log on to the site like you normally do, click a link that takes you to a screen that looks a lot like Word. You type your story, match report, whatever, and click Publish. That is all. If every section, or each team even, has someone who adds information about that team to the site, then all teams will have regular updates. Simple.

- Managing the site / Administrator

If you feel a little more confident and you think you can get the hang of a very simple Content Management System, (we use Joomla for this site) then you might want to help out with actually managing the site. This means making sure people who register with the site are approved, content that is no longer relevant gets removed or archived etc. You are also responsible for adding photographs, using your judgement on how appropriate some of them are to go public on the website for everyone to see.

This can be as much or as little work as you like. Once you know how things work, you could change the design of the site, add new functionality to it (like newsletters or RSS news feeds). It is up to you how much you want to put in to it. If you want to do this, it is useful if you have a very basic (and I mean really basic) MySQL database stuff or if you think you can learn. No nerd-type knowledge is required as the current webmistress knew NOTHING about it when the site was created last year.

You will also get al emails sent to the webmaster and have to deal with questions from users. People will send you stuff to put on the site, something that will take no more than 5 minutes but you will need to know how to handle content and understand the structure of the site.

Initially, this job will probably still be done by the current webmistress until enough people have been trained on the Adding Content side of things.

- Managing email & hosting account

The website is hosted on the servers of Fasthosts.co.uk. They also provide us with the mailboxes and email addresses. Currently, the webmistress has set up many email addresses for people with different functions in the club. When these people change, the email addresses need to be re-addressed to the new people. (example: This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it used to send allemails to Keir, now it sends them to Les Grafton).
This is really a small job as usually things just seem to work just fine as long as the bill is paid every month.

Perhaps I have put you off now but don't be. As long as the site remains up to date, that is all that matters. That is the minimal requirement. Anything above that is just a bonus.

Let us know if you are interested in helping, no matter how little you think you can do, it is always useful!
