Line Out for Old Leamingtonians Ladies against Lutterworth

Old Leamingtonians continued to make good progress in the opening games of their Midlands Championship 2 league campaign, by securing a good win and a bonus point.

OLs soaked up a lot of pressure from Lutterworth in the first 20 minutes. Lutterworth had a strong pack, which tested OLs defence and stamina.

The first break came in the 24th minute where OLs dominated a driving maul; this gave the opportunity for Celina Bennett to take the ball on before passing back in to flanker, Janine McComisky, who touched down for the first try of the match.

Four minutes later, Christie Foster did an 8 pick-up off a 22 metre scrum and passed it off to scrum half, Charlie Graham to take OLs into double figures.

Opening the second half, OL’s fitness shone through and resulted in a series of tries. The means by which the tries were scored were many and varied, and played testament to the many dimensions of the OL’s game.

In the 51st minute, OLs scored with an 8 pick-up popped to 9, Charlie Graham which was then converted by 15, Vicky Stokes.

Old Leams continued to put a great deal of pressure on Lutterworth with some inspired forward running and a pass off from 2nd row Katy Ingram which resulted in another try for flanker, Janine McComiskey, and a conversion by Vicky Stokes, giving OLs a well-deserved bonus point.

In the 61st minute, from a text book line-out, the ball was passed out to 10, Danni Benge, who did a miss pass to Claire Penna, who ran in OL’s 6th try, again converted by Vicky Stokes.

Lutterworth were then reduced to 14 players due to injury and OLs monopolised on this by winger, Celina Bennett scoring an inspiring 70th minute try.

OLs continued to dominate, scoring another two tries (by Vicky Stokes and Janine McComiskey respectively) before close of play.

OLs are always looking to recruit new players at the Crofts, training on Monday and Wednesday nights. See www.olrfc.co.uk for further information.
