Old Leams made the short journey to a revamped OW's, looking to prolong their excellent start to the 07/08 campaign. The game did look in doubt with no signs of an official referee, but luckily a schools ref from Warwickians kindly put himself forward, and into the firing line.

The visitors made a rather sluggish start to the game, with a few handling errors and strong opposition defence keeping the scores level within the first 15 minutes. A neat chip from fly half Mark Foley gave talented winger Jack Secher a chance to run at the opposition, eventually offloading to centre Malc Boyd to run in under the posts. Foley adding the extras.
Missed opportunities along with strong forward play from the OW's pack kept the score at 0-7 at half time.
A firm reminder of the OL's game plan was told at half time, and it seemed to do trick as they started the 2nd half much stronger. Good lineout ball from Luke Turner gave the Old Leams pack an opportunity to show their danger within the oppositions 22. This led to a penalty which was quickly taken by scrum half Andy Hall and, after a couple of quick phases, led to Secher touching down in the corner. Conversion was missed.

The backs were beginning to show the flair that has contributed to five wins out of five so far this season. Andy Hall linking well with strong running winger Howard Wickes almost led to another try. Foley then joined in and with a faint dummy ran through the defence up to the 5 metre line. With the pack in support, a try was still on the cards and flanker Liam Jones crossed over to show the importance of support play.

With the score at 19-0 and OL's on top, tempers were fraying in the Warwickians side. This resulted in one of their props being given a straight red for a clear punch on captain Jon Carnall.

With a man up, spaces were created for Old Leams and it was only a matter of time before more points were added. This came courtesy of prop Nick Bingham performing a Jason Robinson style dummy to fool the full back, and run into the corner.

Controversial behaviour from the Warwickians scrum half resulted in him leaving the pitch in a 'protest' to the referee, of which in both sides view had a good and fair game. OL's already subbed prop Rich Deville kindly agreed to play the last 10 mins out for Warwickians, enabling a closer game till the end.

The final try of the game came after a good few phases form the pack, resulting in Liam Jones crossing for his 2nd of the game.
With 6 wins from 6, this year’s campaign is going from strength to strength for the Old Leamingtonians II.
Man of the match was awarded to Jim Holder for the 2nd week running for excellent work in the forwards.

Next opposition- Bedworth II Sunday 21st October (cup game).

The gum shield is the most important piece of equipment a rugby player should own.

gumshield.pngThe gum shield not only protects your teeth and gums, it can reduce damage around the jaw and your chances of getting concussed.

As every mouth is different, so every gum shield should be moulded to fit perfectly around the top half of a player's mouth.

The best way of doing this is to see your local club dentist, who will make sure the shield is right for your mouth.

Roy Dixon, Dentist of this parish, will be available at the club to take impressions for perfectly moulded blue-and-gold gum shields.

£25 cash for complete piece of mind
