OL 59 – Broadstreet 14. OL try scorers Joe Blake 4, Christopher Easton 2, Sam Hain 3. All converted by Christopher Easton.

Jack Slinn was made man of the match with his heroic display of tackling in the backline.

This was the best display from this team for 2 years on a bleak cold wet morning at The Crofts that did not encourage good open rugby. Last week they had a severe mauling and spirits were down and the boys from Warwick School still had the beating by Princethorpe College earlier in the week in their minds.
Broad Street arrived with a large squad of players and as usual marched onto the field in a military fashion.
The three coaches were alarmed by the fact that they only had 11 players present, Jake Fairley offered to play the wing with his broken leg, bur relief came as Jack Jobling arrived early (10 minutes late) and Amanandeep strolled on the pitch fresh from a night in London .
Sam Hain and Christopher Easton were back from injury so a team was formed with several new inexperienced players thrown in at the deep end especially in the back line and several players drafted into the pack for the first time.
Coach Hain gave a magnificent Henry V to rally his troops, Coach Murrell said he would come up with some Welsh Wizardry and Coach Morgan said he was going to gather his thoughts (on a Sunday morning!).
The game started by Broad Street taking an early lead and threatening to take over the game but OL’s managed to draw level with an opportunistic try.
Jack Jobling was injured and OL’S were now down to 11 men, but he courageously returned and played a fine game at full back.
At half time OL’s led surprisingly 19-14 using their rush defence, aggressive rucking and mauling to great advantage.
The new players Jake Slinn, Ciaeron Ryan and Luke Chamberlain were growing in confidence and stature and the game was now evenly poised for the second half.
The second half then started with OL’s taking the game with fine tries from “Storming” Joe Blake and a hat trick from Sam Hain.
This was a fine team performance in very poor conditions and every player gave total commitment to both club, team colleagues and coaches.
The game finished at 59-14 and was the best fighting display for several seasons and a credit to the coaches’ work this year.
