The Under 9s fought hard against a strong and talented Stratford squad, but ultimately came off second best in wintry conditions.
The U9s were privileged to be allocated two pitches on Stratford's 1st XV pitch on Sunday. On pitch one, OLs got off to a flying start with an early try from Callum Dixon. Stratford fought back to equalize before half-time, and helped by two turnovers, eased to a 20 - 5 win. A second game was nip and tuck from start to finish and a George Hawkes try earned OLs a 5 all draw. A third game proved one too many as missed tackles and poor concentration allowed Stratford to score at will, cantering to a 45 - 0 win. Meanwhile on pitch 2, an inexperienced side were brushed aside by Stratford who scored 9 tries without reply. However, lessons were quickly learned and a tight and second exciting game ended tied at 20 apiece, with tries by Sennan Scobie (2), Sam Beards and Scott Thomas with his first try for the club. Fortified by this result, OLs cut loose in the final game emerging winners by 25 - 5 as the defence proved watertight and handling improved. Tries for Bailey Wightman (2), George Hawkes, Jack Firth and James McSharry. |
