OL’s took 22 players to Stratford for traditionally one of the Season’s toughest fixtures against a very strong and professional outfit. Two games were played and a couple of boys had to play part of both fixtures. In the first game a less experienced OL team were 3-tries to nil down at half time but produced a sterling second half effort of tackling, coupled with some good attacking play, to score two good tries. They could have drawn or even won if the game had gone on longer. The final score was 19-14 with tries from Rory Sinnot (Try and conversion) and Stelios Tzirki (converted by Oliver Webb). Rory was also player of the match with Alex Richards winning Best support player. In the second game OL’s were faced with a physically bigger and stronger Stratford outfit and despite a narrow defeat produced their best performance of the season. OL’s were further hampered by a number of injuries but it was an example of the great team spirit and collectiveness that the injured boys chose to play on. Whilst OL’s lost by 3 converted tries to 2 it is fair to say that on another day they could have come away with the victory their efforts fully deserved. Both tries were scored by Jake Byrne who also managed a conversion. Player of the match was Angus Firth and best support player Stelios Tzirki. |
