OL’s had 25 players in the final fixture before Christmas and fielded two teams of mixed experience to ensure that all the boys got a game against visitors Keresley who fielded a strong and forceful team.
In the first game OL’s struggled to come to terms with Kerseley’s aggressive play, often panicking under pressure and losing possession, but in the second half after a team talk and chat with the coaches, OL’s responded with some spirited defence and attacking play and whilst they ran out 5-26 losers they deserved much credit for their second half resilience.

Game 1 Player of the match:
Stelios Tzirki
Best support:
George Esworthy and James Foster.

In the second game OL’s again with a number of less experienced players in the team produced a heroic display of tackling and support play which provided the foundation for Jake Byrne to score 3 individual tries and a subsequent 21-17 win. The determination shown by the boys against very aggressive and physically stronger opposition was a credit to their great team spirit and determination not to be intimidated. There will be days when the “beautiful game” will win, but Sunday’s performance of sheer grit was significant as the boys grow into rugby players and learn to deal with new kinds of pressures. Coach, Jim Button said 'They were all heroes on my eyes'.

Game 2 Player of the match:

Jake Byrne

Best support:

Andrew Swann, Toby Whelan and James Cusworth.
