OL’s Ladies build on last week’s performance![]() An impressive team performance gave OL’s ladies a much deserved win over Lutterworth to cement their mid table position in their new challenging league this season. After an unsettled first 5 minutes with some arguable penalties against OL’s and winger Hannah Leyland being yellow carded for a dubious off-side OL’s got their heads together & started the scores. Christie Foster took advantage of a quick penalty by off loading to Claire Penna at 13 who had spotted the gap behind the pack & after a neat side step of the full back put 5 points on the board. Shortly, after some good supporting runs from a lively pack OL’s moved the game line back into the Lutterworth 22. A kick from Lutterworth was well received by Coleman at 15 who ran well in-field avoiding the tackles for another neat off load to Penna at the right second to exploit a gap under the posts which gave Captain Danni Benge at 10 her first of 3 conversions. Some strong mauling held off OL’s for the next ten minutes with Lutterworth using their strength in the pack to drive the match back towards the OL’s half. But, in true OL’s fashion, flanker Janine McCormiskey grabbed a half chance, took a quick penalty & off loaded to Coleman who stormed up the pitch once more stepping the tackles to claim try number 3. Props Sugrue & Nuzyni drove back at the Lutterworth pack with some strong mauling to challenge their strong pack & held off any attempt the opposition might have of crossing the halfway line before half time. ![]() The opposition soon started back hard with more aggressive mauls & they managed to roll several to gain some ground. After a break from the forwards OL’s soon regained the ground. At the back of a scrum, no.8 Foster picked up & went blind, dummied a pass to 7, spun round & dived for the line starting the second half scoring. A series of hard tackle breaking runs from Charlotte Hewer at 12 & quick offloading from the backs gained OL’s some serious ground in the next ten minutes. Then from the base of a ruck, scrum half Charli Graham burst through & took the score line to 27-0. The next score came from a penalty on the Lutterworth 22, Graham took a quick tap penalty, spun the ball to Benge who side stepped her opposite number & weaved past a couple more defenders to put the ball down under the posts, setting herself up nicely for another 2 point conversion. At 34-0 Lutterworth maintained their composure & kept up a tough defensive position, sadly it wasn’t enough. Once again exploiting the blind side, Foster picked up from the back of a scrum just beyond the half way line, nipping past the flanker she off loaded to Graham who shipped the ball wide to winger Leyland who stepped inside the Lutterworth winger & charged up the blind side, out sprinting the full back to score in the corner. With another good offload from the forwards, Hewer gained the team more ground by pounding through the defence. From a ruck the ball was passed out to Benge who made ground & Penna took a great angle to make use of another gap in the defence to score herself a birthday hat trick & give Benge her 3rd conversion. From 47-0 the final points were scored after the pack won a scrum against the head & Graham picked up quickly & stormed over the line again. 51-0 was the final scored when the game was called to a close in the 76th minute due to Lutterworth injury. Ol’s were pleased with their performance but need to maintain their poise to take on their next league opponents Oakham away on the 17th February.
