OLs gained bragging rights in the town, at least for the Under 9s, as Leamington were defeated in two hard fought fixtures. On a sunny, cold Sunday, with some frost still in the pitch, OLs sent a mixed team out for the first game against hosts Leamington. Despite going behind to an early try, OLs kept their composure, and equalised before half-time through the excellent Will Fawcett, unusually playing at prop. The momentum remained with OLs in the second half, as Leamington were not allowed any time or space with Scott Thomas and Matthew Sawyer particularly prominent. Eventually OLs dominance told and tries from Kieran Brophy and Will Button ensured a 15 - 5 victory. OLs fielded a completely different team for the rematch.
At first OLs seemed a touch timid at the breakdown and it took a strong run from Josh Allen to focus the team. Ciaran Lavery peeled off a maul to score, but Leamington responded with an excellent equalizing try. Josh Allen scored from the restart to re-establish OL's dominance, which was maintained in the second half as Sennen Scobie scored for the visitors. OLs again ran out winners by 15 - 5. |
