OLs travelled to Sutton Coldfield on Sunday for their last regular fixture of a successful season. Despite missing a few regulars, OLs were not daunted by a strong Sutton outfit, and came out on top overall in the four matches played. On Pitch 1, OLs made a slow start against a well-drilled Sutton team, who scored twice before half-time. An improvement in the second-half was not quite enough as Sutton edged out OLs by 15 - 10, despite two tries from George Hawkes. On Pitch 2, OLs began brightly and pegged back Sutton. Will Fawcett scored to tries, with a single from Jack Firth as OLs eased to a 15 - 0 victory. After a short breather, battle recommenced in the reverse fixtures... On Pitch 1, Sutton defended well from the start, but OLs eventually wore down their hosts' resistance. Tries were scored by Sennen Scobie, Kieran Brophy and George Hawkes. Sutton's consolation try made the final score 15 - 5 to OLs. The final match on Pitch 2 was a titanic struggle, with OLs superb forwar play, matched by Sutton's skilful backs. Sutton scored before halftime, but Will Fawcett cut through to equalise after the restart. Despite a raft of replacements, neither side was able to break the deadlock, and the sides drew 5 each. |
