 Congratulations to the Old Leamingtonians Comets Tag team. The team won the West Midlands Tag
league at their final fixture at Shipston on Stour rugby club on Sunday and also
won the league fair play award !! A great way to end the season.The Old Leamingtonians Comets U17 girls play in the West Midland Tag Rugby League with 7 other teams: Evesham Red; Evesham Blue; Yardley and District; Bournville; Kenilworth; Shipston and Old Saltleains.
Festivals are held
throughout the season with 5 points for a win; 4 points for runner up; 3 points
for 3rd place; 2 points for 4th place and 1 point for attending.
As of last week (11 May 2008), Comets had won 4 festivals; had been runner
up 3 times and 3rd place twice. We went into the final festival at
Shipston on level points of 38 with Evesham Red.
The teams were divided into two pools (selected by a draw) and Comets won
their pool convincingly with a 9-3 win over Evesham Red, a 6-3 win over
Kenilworth and a 9-3 win over Old Saltleains. They then met Yardley
(winners of the other pool) in the Final and had a magnificent win of 6 tries to
4 to win the West Midlands League. To add to their success, they were also
voted League Fair Play winners by the other clubs.
