OLs were by far the better individuals on the day but Daventry proved just that little bit more cohesive as a team. The first half saw some impressive defence by the entire OL team whist the pack showed a great deal of personal endeavour but the Daventry side eventually scored twice.
OLs responded by upping their effort and work rate and despite a number of personnel changes maintained a very competitive display and came back with two tries of their own through Liam Welling and Ciaran O’Connor, one of which was converted, to take a narrow lead. OLs continued strongly but were disrupted by a long stoppage for an injury coupled with a necessary change of pitch and in the dying moments of the game Daventry scored a try under the posts to win a very closely fought game. Ben Palmer was the outstanding player on the OL team. New Colts Manager Terry Hobman said that he was encouraged by the potential shown by the lads.
