OLs Veterans were having their first outing and initially it showed as Nuneaton Old Eds ran in 4 unanswered tries to lead 26-0 before halftime. OLs defended stoutly with ‘captain on the day’ Colin Aston leading by example by making many tackles at fly-half but Nuneaton pounced on the slightest error to be well ahead at the break. The second half was a different story as the lighter OLs team reorganised and took the game to Nuneaton to win 7-5. New Centre John Emery was outstanding in attack and defence scoring OLs try, converted by Simon Noakes, and he was ably supported by the evergreen backs together with props Sean Boyle and Neil Selby to name but two of the hard working pack. Debutant Steve Middleton was prominent at second row whilst late injuries momentarily sidelined Simon Noakes and Graham Boote. Next game in a months time.
