Two late well taken tries from captain Luke Staton and second row Luke Cobb was some reward for the effort put into the game by OL’s who met Pershore on a day when everything went right for the home side and the visitors had no luck with the run of the ball.  That having been said Pershore presented OL’s with problems with a game plan that saw second row forwards playing rugby from inside and outside centre positions that continually caused havoc with the OL’s defensive positioning.

OL’s, playing with a number of replacements for injured and missing first team squad players, never succumbed and throughout the game defended well against a superior side on the day.  The forwards particularly gave as good as they got and came away from the game with credit.

This was a rearranged fixture from day one of the season and OL’s host Pershore again this Saturday when it is hoped that a number of first team selection will be back.

OL’s conceded tries at regular intervals, all coming from breaks down the middle of the field when quick ball from the ball carrier to supporting players breached the OL’s defences.  Pershore scored six tries without reply, two in the first half and four in the second before OL’s began to gain the upper hand through committed forward play and quick breaks from the OL’s fast backs, the final pass going adrift all to regularly.

OL’s must learn from this game and be prepared for the same game plan that Pershore will undoubtedly adopt for the return fixture.
