Brutal conditions met the players that travelled to Harbury, driving rain and wind strong enough to blow dogs off leads. The comparatively inexperienced squad from OL’s were met by a larger and well drilled Harbury team, but all valuable gametime for those starved of recent opportunity.... Game 1 - was a victory for Harbury, who consistently drove OL’s off the ball at the breakdown and ran through the defence to score a handful of tries in the 1st Half – OL’s managing to reply with a score from Cameron Jessamine. Some tactical halftime substitutions improved OL’s resistance in the 2nd Half ending up scoring two tries to Harbury’s one – again Cameron Jessamine getting on the scoresheet along with Edward Commander. The key points were the lack of cohesion between the backs, field position going awry and hesitancy to commit numbers to rucks – on the upside it stopped raining at full time. Game 2 – was a difficult sight to behold, mainly because of the gale force wind making it a challenge to remain upright! A largely unchanged line-up worked doggedly to limit the scoring of Harbury to just 3 tries to OL’s 1 – Cameron Jessamine again. Some exhausted and soggy players were replaced on both teams at half time and Harbury then ran away with the 2nd half, scoring at will in the last few minutes - Edward Commander chipping in with another try for OL’s. The final score slipping my mind.... All valuable experience, some great effort from the players who were against the elements and a stronger squad – OL’s can draw from this encounter and build! |
