OLs were invited to the inaugural Warwick School Under 11 Festival, played under lights at Myton Road on Friday. Other teams representing the local area were Stratford, Kenilworth, Harbury and Leamington.
Our first match against Stratford was a colossal battle. OLs put themselves under immediate pressure by dropping Stratford's kick off. Desperate defence kept Stratford at bay, and eventually OLs moved upfield to be thwarted just short of the line. Stratford counter-attacked and their start centre scored on half time. From the restart OLs drove on, their forward play, superior in all aspects, but being resisted by Stratford's solid defence. Eventually George Hawkes scored in the corner despite the attention of several tacklers. OLs failed to hang on to a deserved draw, as Stratford broke away to score the decisive try. In match two, a much-changed side took time to knit together against Kenilworth, and although both sides played open rugby, the half remained scoreless. After the restart, OLs pressure mounted and Will Fawcett - playing in the Second Row - scored two fine tries, sandwiching a score from Kenilworth. The final score came through James McSharry finishing a flowing move in the corner. The boys retired to sample the School's finest sausage and chips whilst parents took advantage of the bar.
