On a soggy pitch and sharp sunny weather OLs travelled to a new location to take on an extremely large, well drilled, Northampton Old Scouts u14 outfit, who initially were quite intimidating with their aggressive and incisive running. Before long they were 3 tries up and 3 of our backs had been side-lined with facial injuries but then showing great courage OLs decided to make a game of it and after good forward play Luke went over in the corner to stun the home side. Northampton then replied with an unconverted try to lead at the interval 24-5. 

A major re-shuffle at half-time led to James Allen, Amand, Joel And Joe Blake being re-positioned in an attempt to improve our defence against their strong backs, which they indeed did, however it took quite a while, until the first scrum, before OLs realised they were playing with just 14 men, in the mean time Northampton had scored.  OLs then began to believe in themselves and after a typical "bullet-like" run Joe Blake crashed over and replacement kicker James Allen managed to convert via both bar and upright!  This stirred Northampton again and they responded with another try but were showing major indiscipline problems at the breakdown, in all they conceded 13 penalties as against one of ours, at higher levels such indiscipline will undoubtedly be punished.  OLs did not capitulate at all and Luke, who like fellow wing Tom had a fine game, again completed a move all along the line with the final try in the corner. So the second half was honours even at 12-12.  OLs learned a great deal in coping with a much more physical side than we have previously encountered, and did so with great courage.  The team, who were missing several key 'strength' players, can hold their heads up high.
