Match Report: Old Leamingtonians u14 v Leamington u14 28 Feb 2010.
Sunday morning saw OLs face their greatest local rivals, Leamington. It was a soggy, energy sapping Crofts pitch after the incessant recent deluges but OLs started much the brighter and were quickly on the score-sheet with a well worked forward move which Ed Andrews completed well. This stung Leamington into action and only excellent defence by OLs as a team kept their rivals out. The forwards provided possession by good rucking, competing well against a strong Leamington pack, the OLs backs were moving smoothly and 2 well-constructed 3/4 moves led to Joe Blake, playing at centre, scoring twice unconverted to shake Leamington`s confidence. OLs led convincingly 15-0 at half-time. The usual Leamington supporters’ verbal demonstrated their frustrations of a side not used to being beaten. The atmosphere lived up to expectations!
After the interval Leamington produced more sustained pressure with a couple of impact substitutions which led to their very committed No8, Emanuel, scoring after breaking off from the set piece 5 yard scrum under the posts. Heroic defensive work once again was required by OLs when 3 of our players, Jack, Joe E and James W were all sidelined after injury, Leamington efforts were duly repelled. Amandeep, Ed and Joe B were particularly effective in this later period as OLs started to tire, but it was Leamington who reached the exhaustion point when the defence gives way and tries are scored, OLs broke away with 2 more outstanding tries by Joe Blake, both superbly converted by Max Jeffs, to round off another great display by OLs with a 29-7 victory.
