OL’s  at Kenilworth Festival 25th April 2010
OL’s U10’s fielded a squad of 10 for Kenilworth’s festival, meeting teams from Rugby, Atherstone and Coventry in some impressive encounters.  OL’s tied at the top of the table on points with Kenilworth, who took overall honours by conceding one less try than us.
Game 1
OL’s vs  Old Coventrians
Having been put down 4-1 by OL’s at our home festival the previous weekend, OC’s had come with one strong side who held us to a scoreless 1st Half.  The only try being the decider in the second half being down to a well worked blindside move by Kai Bailey – Ol’s were slow at the breakdown and were missing the usual forward dominance of recent games.  However the defence was resolute and OC’s were not able to make any significant gain. Final Score 5-0.
Game 2
OL’s vs  Atherstone
Some direct forward play and excellent backs linking saw OL’s crush Atherstone 30-0 with relative ease – Kai, Jamie, Lewis and Tom getting on the score sheet.
Game 3
Ol’s vs K’s ‘A’
A bruising and physical encounter that, despite some refereeing from the ‘impressionist’ era, ended scoreless.  Neither side being able to capitalise on any advantage, so both sides had a lot to be proud of in terms of organisation of attack and defence – the best game of the five played.
Game 4
Ol’s  vs K’s ‘B’
After a break for lunch OL’s took out their frustration on the K’s ‘B’ Team and crushed them 30 – 0, again a forward/backs link that dominated proceedings with Jamie Johnson landing a well taken hat-trick.
Game 5
OL’s vs. Rugby Lions
This was a ‘must win’ game that needed a  4 try winning margin to be certain of the overall tournament win – unfortunately in the second half OL’s conceded the only try of the day, ending up winners on a 20-5 scoreline.
Although OL’s were unbeaten and tied on points with the Hosts, so were Kenilworth ‘A’s ‘- having not conceded a try meant they took the spoils on count back.
Well done to the players that managed 5 top class games of rugby in 3 1/2hrs – they deserved the applause!
