Old Leamingtonians Vets combined with the OL’s 3rd team to play Warwickians 2nds. A circumstance forced upon them by the length of the 1st and 2nd team’s injury list. Notwithstanding this the OL’s were able to put out a squad comprising10 Vets and 9 3rd teamers who welcomed close neighbours and good friends Warwickians to the Crofts. On yet another sunny Saturday the Old Leams started with a spirit of purpose that boded well. No 8 Bali scored from a bullocking run from 10 meters out, conversion by Chris Joyner being successful. Man of the match Nick Bingham scored from the flank close to the posts, converted by fullback Joyner. This was quickly followed by some surprising enterprise in the backs that led to a further 1st half try scored by winger Mike Prestige who has returned to rugby having had a 12 month break due to a serious shoulder injury. Warwickians displayed typical resilience and skill to steal a try late in the half to stay in the hunt. The second half saw a number of changes within the OL’s personnel and as often happens a certain continuity was lost, this was the opportunity that Warwickians were looking for and they duly pressed hard to compete, resulting in 2 trys one converted. Final score Old Leamingtonians Veterans 19 – 17 Warwickians |
