OLRFC Ladies mark the end of an era

Old Leamingtonians Ladies Rugby Football Club (OLRFC Ladies) will be holding a testimonial match in honour of Janine McComiskey (nee Surridge) on Sunday 6th September 2009. The match would be between the current OLRFC Ladies 1st XV and a 'former' XV.

If you still play and would like to play at this game, or are retired but have been looking for a good excuse to play one last time, this is your chance. Please contact Ada via email  This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it , and let  her know your prefered position.

Janine first played rugby at Sunderland University and embarked upon her club rugby career at Newbold Rugby Football Club when she moved to Warwickshire in 1993. In 1994 she was spotted by an England coach and was swiftly called up to represent Midlands Division.
Coaxed away from Newbold in 1996, the star back row player joined Old Leamingtonians in the Premier league, where her skills and abilities saw her captain the 1st XV in the 98/99 season. This was their most successful season, when they reached the National Cup Final and finished 4th in the Premiership.
She continued to represent Midlands until 2000 when she was selected to play in the inaugural Super Fours tournament. She then stepped down from representative rugby to focus on her club. She was Ladies Fixtures Secretary for 5 seasons, captained the squad for a second time in 02/03 and was Chairwoman for 3 seasons between 2003-2006.
Thirteen seasons after joining the club, Janine’s rugby career has come to an end. She will be sadly missed as there is no doubt that she is one of OLRFC Ladies finest and we look forward to marking the end of such a bright career with a big bang! Team mates and club members old and new have nothing but respect for Janine and all that she has contributed to the club.
OLRFC Ladies are looking forward to this event; to make it a great success we are looking for players/ex-players who have played alongside Janine throughout her rugby career.
