Save this Site!
kitchener.jpgThis website is updated frequently by a few people who will all tell you it only takes a few minutes to keep it full of fresh news and match reports. However, somebody needs to be in control of the overall website. It is currently maintained by myself and I have actually left Old Leamingtonians last year! So, with the new season approaching, someone else needs to take over from me or else this website will become obsolete and full of old, useless data.

Being in control of the website really is not a lot of work at all. It merely means adding a few articles a month that other people send to you. Most people who contribute know how to add things without help. As you will have noticed, the Mini/Junior section and the Senior 2nd XV are pretty good at keeping information fresh on this site.  If all sections have one or two people who add stuff to the site or send it on to the webmaster, the site will remain fresh, up to date and relevant to the entire club.

If you want to be the Webmaster and you have 10-20 minutes per month to spare, let me know. It really is very easy to do. If you can use Word, you can do it. It is probably the easiest job you can do for the club so all those peopel who say they would love to help out but simply do not have the time for it, this is your chance. If nobody steps forward to take over form me, this website will have to be removed at the end of the season. Surely you can not let this happen? Get in touch with me or with Ed Jessamine to see what you can do.

U7s Kenilworth Tournament Print E-mail
Written by Jim Parker
Monday, 05 May 2008
We took 10 players to this tournament which was well organised (except for parking) and enjoyed perfect weather.

Our first game was against Berkswell and Balsall and we made a fantastic start by beating them 7-2. Our scorers were: Adam Thompson; Zac Parker (2); Ben Hawkes; and Charlie Labbett (3)

Next we played Kenilworth Lions, always a strong team and were narrowly beaten 4-5 after some dubious decisions. Nevertheless our boys played really well the scorers being Oliver Mansell (2) and Charlie Labbett (2)

Finally we played Sillhillians in which game we maintained the highest standars of the season and ran out of time during a winning run to finish with a 4-4 draw. Our scorers were Zac Parker; Ben Hawkes; Charlie Labett and Oliver Mansell.

Had we won this last match we would have won the whole tournament but did magnificently to come a close second. Poor Rachel, just as she gets them playing really well they all leave her and move to the U8s.

A great end to the season! All players and parents offer thanks and congratulations to Rachel who took a bunch of kids who were a rabble and had no idea what rugby was about and turned them into a well organised winning team. Well done Rachel.

U7s Ols Festival Print E-mail

Once again we had more than enough players for two teams so we had Panthers and Jaguars

Both Kenilworth and Stratford fielded only one team each.

The first game was Kenilworth v. our Jaguars who were unfortunately outclassed and lost 7-1.

Next was OL Panthers v. Stratford which was a closer game resulting in a 5-4 win for Stratford .

The OL Panthers went straight on to play Kenilworth. We had tries disallowed when the ball was put on the line in one case and over the line after a tag one stride from the line in another case. Even after this discouraging refereeing the Panthers held Kenilworth to a 6-6 draw. A moral victory I think - Well done lads. Lets get our own back next weekend.

The next game was OL Jaguars v. Stratford which they lost 1-4

Finally we had the local derby of the OL Panthers playing the OL Jaguars. The Panthers won 6-0.

See below for scorers.

2nd XV 'A' v 2nd XV 'B': 14-34 Print E-mail

Usually, internal games tend not to merit much attention once they're over. But this game is an exception to that rule. Shipston had pulled out and the 26 or so players left with nothing to do on a Saturday afternoon decided to play against each other before breaking out the beer.

I for one am glad we did. These games usually coincide with a number of injuries as some people take it more seriously than others. Not so in this case. The intensity with which these guys played matched any other competitive game in terms of commitment. This was not a best vs. the rest game either, but a genuine attempt to create an even game.

Sutton Coldfield - U9s Print E-mail

OLs travelled to Sutton Coldfield on Sunday for their last regular fixture of a successful season.
Despite missing a few regulars, OLs were not daunted by a strong Sutton outfit, and came out on top overall in the four matches played.
On Pitch 1, OLs made a slow start against a well-drilled Sutton team, who scored twice before half-time. An improvement in the second-half was not quite enough as Sutton edged out OLs by 15 - 10, despite two tries from George Hawkes.
On Pitch 2, OLs began brightly and pegged back Sutton. Will Fawcett scored to tries, with a single from Jack Firth as OLs eased to a 15 - 0 victory.

After a short breather, battle recommenced in the reverse fixtures...
